BM2 Scott J. Chism, USCG, 25, passed away March 24, 2001,
after he was ejected from a Station Niagara, N.Y. 21-foot boat while on patrol along the U.S.-Canadian border. Born June 16, 1975 in San Diego, he graduated from Pamona High School in June 1993, and enlisted in the Coast guard on Aug. 4, 1997. Following boot camp, he was assigned to Station Bellingham, Wash. In August 1999, he transferred to Station Niagara. He was involved in two of Station Niagara’s most important cases this year: one a drug seizure and the other a SAR case that involved saving a man. He is survived by his wife, Lissa, 4-year-old daughter, Kelsey, and 1-year-old son, Caleb; brother, Tim; and parents Jim and Maureen Chism of El Cajon, Calif . Funeral services were held March 28, 2001, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Lewiston, N.Y. Interment San Diego, Calif. Another memorial service was held for BM2 Chism and SN Chris Ferreby on Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Lewiston, N.Y. SN Chris Ferreby, USCG, 23, passed away March 24, 2001, after he was ejected from a Station Niagara, N.Y. 21-foot boat while on patrol along the U.S.-Canadian border. Born March 28, 1977 in Morristown, N.J. he graduated from Fairport High School in June 1996. He enlisted in the Coast Guard on May 12, 1999, and following boot camp, was assigned to Station Niagara. He advanced to seaman on March 9, 2001. He was known as “Furbee” and as “Mr. Fix It” at Station Niagara for his wood working ability. He is survived by his wife, Amy; 7-month-old son Tyler; father, Tom Ferreby; mother, Kathleen Jenkins; brothers Mike, Dave and Matt; and sister, Jennifer. Funeral services were held in Fairport, N.Y. on March 30, 2001. Another memorial service was held for SN Ferreby and BM2 Scott Chism on Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Lewiston, N.Y.
